Serving those who serve us
Socks, flashlights, puzzle books and notecards were flying off tables as CHS owners worked together to pack kits for military members during the 2018 CHS Annual Meeting in early December. More than 700 care kits were packed for distribution by Operation Gratitude to troops overseas.
The effort was a partnership between CHS corporate giving, now called CHS Better Together, and the CHS Veterans Resource group. Each pack included frequently requested care items and was sent to service members in Kuwait.
“As a solider in the Army National Guard, I know what it means to receive a gift that reminds you of home,” says Jessica Schafer, CHS Capital. “Seeing so many CHS owners take a few minutes to fill packages for deployed soldiers makes me even more proud to be part of CHS.”
In less than four hours, owners packed 715 kits, wrote 583 personal notes and made 200 paracord bracelets that can be used in the field to build shelters or create rescue harnesses.
“We were overwhelmed by owners who stopped by to pack a kit and share their connections to the military,” says Tracy Eichenberger, coordinator, CHS Stewardship. “This is what CHS Better Together is all about: partnering to make a difference in the lives of others.”
