Fuel of the future
School bus driver Billy Durow fills up at an autogas dispenser managed by CHS Rochester in southeastern Minnesota.
Propane autogas is a clean, efficient alternative fuel that could change how Americans think about powering their vehicles — if only more people had access to it.
The benefits of using propane fuel are many: affordability, decreased maintenance and less environmental impact than refined fuels. “With U.S. propane production at all-time highs, now is the time to take advantage of propane as a reliable and affordable energy source,” says Adam DeLawyer, vice president, CHS Propane.
“Fleets, especially school buses, are saving thousands of dollars each year by switching to propane autogas. In some cases, this has allowed school districts to save important resources, including teachers’ jobs.”
While propane autogas adoption is growing for fleets, full adoption by consumers will require infrastructure.
To help create that infrastructure and make propane autogas more available to owners, CHS has launched the CHS Propane- Powered™ Rebate Program, providing cooperatives with rebates for installing autogas dispensers and reimbursements for converting vehicles and adopting propane technologies, like propane-powered generators or irrigation systems.
“By providing tools to our owners so they can use propane as an alternative energy source, CHS is working to build a cleaner environment for future generations,” says DeLawyer.
