Federation Cooperative leverages billboards, other tools

For years, Federation Cooperative has relied on roadside billboards as an important part of its advertising program. Recently the co-op took advantage of a free billboard design available at co-opstory.com to refresh its outdoor advertising at two locations near Black River Falls, Wis. 

“We have a long-established outdoor advertising program. We were looking to change things up, and we really liked having a message focused on the overall value of the cooperative rather than a specific product message,” according to Michelle Kapfer, marketing coordinator, who says response to the two billboards has been positive.

In addition, Federation Cooperative has posted a digital banner ad from the Value of the Co-op Tool Kit on the home page of its website. The headline says, “When farmers band together, big things happen. Watch how your co-op is a part of something bigger,” and it links to a new microsite (yourco-opconnection.com) that contains informative videos and other information about how local cooperatives connect farmers with what they need to be successful. 

Established in 1919, Federation Cooperative is a full-service cooperative with numerous locations, including six convenience stores. Despite its long history, the company recognizes the value of continuing to communicate the benefits of being connected to a co-op for dependable supplies, trusted expertise and community support.

“If you’ve never worked with a cooperative, you don’t know what makes co-ops unique,” says Kapfer. “It’s helpful to have some advertising and literature that tells the co-op story.”
