CHS support helps prepare students for ag business careers

Professor William Wilson, CHS chair in risk management and trading at North Dakota State University, shares industry knowledge with student Caleb Hauck in the university’s Commodities Trading Lab.
Caleb Hauck grew up on a farm in southeastern North Dakota and knew he wanted to pursue a career in agribusiness, but he wasn’t sure of his specific path until he took a class in the Commodities Trading Lab at North Dakota State University (NDSU).
The lab, which opened in 2012 with financial support from CHS and other organizations, has 32 workstations equipped with software that gives students and researchers hands-on experience in risk management and trading.
“Being exposed to commodity trading in this classroom, I was able to pick this out as where I want to go in my career,” says Hauck.
In 2016, the CHS Foundation awarded a $2.5 million grant to NDSU to create the CHS chair in risk management and trading, which is held by Professor William Wilson.
“The commitment the CHS Foundation has made to NDSU allows us to bring in more students and prepare them better for when they go out into the workforce,” says Wilson.
