The CHS Hedging team will host a series of half-day education courses March 25-28, 2024, and June 10-13, 2024. The classes, which will be the same in March and June, will help participants understand and establish long-term commodity price risk management strategies.

The in-person courses will be held at CHS in Inver Grove Heights, Minn. Each class will be taught by multiple members of the CHS Hedging team with deep market experience. Participants can choose one or more of the following classes:

  • Commodity basics
  • Options basics and strategies
  • Origination basics
  • Technical trading
  • Fertilizer trading and risk management
  • Commercial merchandising
  • Energy trading and risk management

Robust learning opportunities

Joe Lardy, a CHS research analyst and course instructor, says the courses will provide learning opportunities for producers and marketing professionals with varying experience levels.

“The diverse offerings give participants the opportunity to choose classes that will improve their knowledge and skill sets in those particular areas,” he says. “We’ve targeted the class offering to specific topics and incorporated world events that could affect business decisions and marketing strategies.”

The classes will break down commodity trading and other terminology, futures markets, hedging concepts and more, says Lardy. Instructors will translate how factors including conflict in the Middle East, Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine and weather in South America could impact markets, price volatility and risk management strategies.
